N°1 SportBiotic is a dietary supplement designed for athletes. It contains 10 billion bacterial cultures from 2 strains in each capsule. In addition, the formulation includes acacia fiber. The bacterial cells are protected by special microencapsulation technology.
Bacterial strains and their use in sports
Both strains found in N°1 SportBiotic became the subject of a randomized study conducted in 2016. The control group consisted of 15 healthy, training men. For 3 weeks, some of them took a placebo, while others used capsules with the said strains (5 billion bacterial cultures of each strain). The men then subjected themselves to heavy muscle-loading exercise. Parameters such as isometric strength, degree of muscle pain, range of motion and levels of interleukin-6 (a pro-inflammatory cytokine produced during exercise), among others, were checked both before and after exercise.
Taking the strains led to lower levels of interleukin-6. Supplementation also likely affected the average peak moment of strength during post-exercise, as well as range of motion. The data collected suggests that the strains may alleviate performance declines and muscle tension after intense muscle-damaging exercise.
Patented microencapsulation technology
Bacterial cells are coated with a thin lipid layer that provides protection not only during storage, but also when passing through the digestive system. Microencapsulation protects against moisture, acidity, light, oxygen.
