Collagen, Proline, and Vitamin C
Bones, tendons, ligaments, and cartilage are made of a complex matrix characterized by high collagen content. This structural protein is crucial for the structure and biomechanical properties of these musculoskeletal tissues. Collagen is an abundant structural protein present in connective tissue. Collagen hydrolysate is collagen that has undergone hydrolysis to produce very low molecular weight collagen peptides, which aims to increase absorption. As the most abundant protein in the body, collagen is essential for maintaining the proper structure and strength of connective tissues, such as bones, skin, cartilage, and blood vessels. Proline accounts for about 10% of all amino acids in collagen, which makes up one-third of mammalian proteins. Proline support is required for the biosynthesis of collagen as well as other proline-containing proteins. Vitamin C is also vital for collagen synthesis—it contributes to normal collagen formation for the proper functioning of bones, cartilage, and skin, as well as blood vessels, gums, and teeth.
What are Glucosamine and Chondroitin?
Glucosamine is an amino acid essential for the biosynthesis of glycosylated proteins and lipids. It is a major component of extracellular matrix macromolecules, such as glycosaminoglycans, glycolipids, and glycoproteins in acetylated form. It is found in high concentrations in articular cartilage, intervertebral discs, and synovial fluid. Chondroitin sulfate, classified as a sulfated glycosaminoglycan, is a major component of the extracellular matrix of many connective tissues, including cartilage, bone, skin, ligaments, and tendons. Chondroitin sulfate is responsible for many important biomechanical properties of cartilage, such as resilience and elasticity. Its high content in cartilaginous tissue plays a major role in enabling cartilage to withstand compressive stress under various loading conditions .
Hyaluronic Acid and MSM
Hyaluronic acid is a polysaccharide belonging to the glycosaminoglycans. It is a component of connective, epithelial, and nervous tissues and is a vital constituent of the extracellular matrix. Among its many biological effects, hyaluronic acid is involved in cell differentiation and viscoelasticity, among others. Its molecular weight and the way it is synthesized or degraded determine its biological effects. For example, high molecular weight hyaluronic acid enables tissue hydration, contributes to osmotic balance, and stabilizes the structure of the extracellular matrix. MSM is a naturally occurring organosulfur compound with a wide range of biological activities, exhibiting, among others, antioxidant properties.
The rich formula of Flex Pak is further supplemented with Vitamin B6, Calcium, and Magnesium
Calcium contributes to normal muscle function and is needed for the maintenance of healthy bones and teeth. In addition, calcium and Vitamin B6 contribute to normal energy-yielding metabolism. Furthermore, Vitamin B6 contributes to the reduction of tiredness and fatigue and to normal protein and glycogen metabolism.
